Okay, so I've been off from school for two weeks and I'm not really sure where it all went...but I start my sixth straight semester tomorrow. The schedule is pretty rough and here's how it looks:

Other updates...
I launched a micro-version of my site, Pelagic Information Design
I just launched a site for a Cornetta-Brown Associates
I gouged a good chunk of my thumb out at Starbucks...
I picked up the original Converge demo tape...
I'm getting closer to finishing my two books...
I got my car fixed (brakes/exhaust...$676), but my lucky frog melted in the hot sun...
And I'm constantly half asleep, yay!...
And aside from playing the part of a secret agent, life's been good.
That's all...until next time.
The past few days featured two new events for me.
1. Getting a flat tire
2. Doing a poetry reading.
Both were really exciting.
I got the flat tire in Framingham while picking up Kristen from a meeting. No explosions or anything, just found my steering to be off. I got it changed in about fifteen minutes, and is probably the most manly thing I've done in ages.
The second just happened Wednesday. Yuill told me about a poetry reading happening that day, and I got a couple of pieces together last minute to do it. Totally worth it, totally a good time.
I ended up going second to last because it was in alphabetical order (good thing I didn't go last, that cat was really good).
But yeah, almost everything I read was still in first draft mode because I have yet to look at them since my year-long writing adventure, but I'm still pleased. I think I'm going to start looking for more readings to do as I revise my work...it was the most fun I've had in a long time. On top of that, when asked for feedback, Yuill gave me a "Dude, you stole that reading. The work was really strong. I'm glad I mentioned it to you." Wicked yes.
They got it on video, so I'll be excited to see how many words I stumbled over.
In other news:
In other other news:Cathy (a baker who comes by every morning for a Venti black) brought cookies and cupcakes with her as a "thank you," and they are damn amazing.
A fan-video of Bloodbath performing "Eaten" at Wacken has made its way online, finally. The performance was supposed to be released on DVD (seeing as it is the only performance they have ever done, and the only one they will ever do with Mike from Opeth on vocals.
I was a bit nervous about Mike doing the Nightmares Made Flesh songs, just because Peter (from Hypocrisy) has such a high range...but he does a fantastic job. Very brutal.
Hopefully that DVD will see the light of day soon. It's seems so very promising.
Well, this should be interesting.
Sunday: working overnight
Monday: no school (President's Day) / working overnight
Tuesday: class
Wednesday: class / working overnight
Thursday: classes / working overnight
Friday: working overnight
Saturday: off...kind of
Sunday: working overnight
I've been listening to the new Blackfield album (Amazon) a lot recently, and I can't really decide how I feel about it. It has some really great tracks, but the lyrics got a lot worse. I mean, they weren't great to begin with, but they got very break-up/angsty pop. From "They said you're in love again, and I try to hide my pain" to "When you were a boy, you had no place inside your parent's world. You were falling like the leaves from an old and dying tree." It just kind of ruins the experience, mainly because the music is so great. Really depressing, but a few lines just really irk me. I have no problem with depressing lyrics, but the simple rhymes and the "A thousand people yell, shouting my name..but I want to die in this moment. I want to die." make it a little disappointing.
Nonetheless, Newbury Comics is offering signed booklets with the pre-order, so I went for it.
I mean, it's still a solid 6.5 - 7 out of 10. Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen are a great team, and they make some really awesome tracks. I'm not sure if I'm going to catch the show March 18th, but it's possible.
Anyways, aside from that...
Current Playlist:
Blackfield - Blackfield II
Converge - everything
Jesu - Conqueror
The Power & The Glory - Call Me Armaggeddon
Swallow the Sun - Ghosts of Lost
Scott Walker - The Drift
I've got a lot of projects coming up, school- and design-wise. Including...
- Paleosol artwork/logo/website design (both a personal and a school project...a very involved one, at that)
- Campaign Base website design
- Template design for Campaign Base
- a few random things for Cornell Alumni
- Charles River Web Connections website redesign
- Massachusetts Motorcycle Association logo/website redesign
- Cornetta-Brown & Associates website redesign
- Jacobs Rosenberg, LLC website redesign
- Information Architecture mid-term & final / Studying for Oceanography test / Geometry mid-term (damn me needing math credits), Abnormal Psych mid-term
- Pelagic ID website redesign (the least of my worries...I'll get to it when I do)
So yeah, I've got a busy couple of months ahead of me. If there was any point to learn time management, this would be it.
I finally got Kindom Cold launched, which felt good. While certainly not the most involved site I've worked on, it was for a cool cat who does some great work. And he said specifically he wanted a very simple logo/site. Works for me.
That's about all for now, I just got back from a birthday lunch with my grandmother and now I'm off to see Kristen
before work tonight.
Cheers.
1. Put your music player on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question
What does this year have in store for me?
The Flaming Lips "Race for the Prize"
Oh snap, a race...I better start working out
What does your love life look like?
Radiohead "Hunting Bears"
An interesting, but wordless atmosphere...good times...
What do u say when life gets hard?
Broken Social Scene "No Smiling Darkness/Snake Charmers Association"
I don't say much, just roll with it...
What do I think of when I get up in the morning?
Bjork "Pleasure is All Mine"
Hello new day, the pleasure is all mine...usually, on top of the grotesque feeling of sleep apnea
What song will I dance to at my wedding?
Deftones "Passenger"
While I'm not sure how I'd dance to this, I'd gladly play this at the wedding I'm not sure will happen
What do you want as a career?
Source of Insanity "Wish"
Hahaha. My band in 8th grade, that's really weird. I would like music to be a career of mine, even though that's not what the song is about, whatever...that's how I'm taking it.
Your favourite saying?
Integrity "Taste My Sin"
No, no it's not. Good song, though.
Favourite place?
Radiohead "Myxomatosis"
I suppose my favorite place is anywhere I can feel tongue-tied, and come down with a fatal disease....erk
What do you think of your parents?
Dying Fetus "Skull Fucked"
My parents have their off-moments, but I wouldn't say they're "skull fucked" anymore than anyone else
Where would you go on a first date?
Deftones "Change (in the house of flies)"
I guess I'd go home and set you on the glass, pull of your wings, and laugh
Drug of choice?
mewithoutYou "C-Minor"
Considering my agnostic state, "God" would not win the prize...but I'll say "hope" is close enough
Describe Yourself.
Bloodbath "Life Fire"
I change through a fixed set of changes
What is the thing I like doing most?
Keelhaul "Some Day Some Other Place"
Procrastination, baby
The song that best describes the president?
Tool "Stinkfist"
Bush is fisting America's ass
What is my state of mind like at the moment?
Circle of Dead Children "Migration"
"Less than static"
How will I die?
The Blood Brothers "Live At the Apocalypse Cabaret"
I'll die by the hands of a scarecrow?
The song that will be played at your funeral?
Porcupine Tree "Trains"
I would definitely put this on my funeral playlist. One of my all time favorite songs, featuring some of Steven Wilson's better lyrics. "Always the summers are slipping away, find me a way for making them stay"
Today was hellish. Chris told me, I signed up to work Christmas day anyways.
And people kept coming.
Lunch breaks, non-existent. We each got a ten minute break. And people kept coming.
Most of everybody looked miserable. And when the line in the drive-through wasn't moving fast enough, people would honk. Oh yeah, that sounded awesome through the head sets.
And people kept coming.
But yeah, I was scheduled from 9:15 to 4:00.
I got there at 8:45, started working at 9:00, and we (closed with Jess and Cait - good team for what needed to be done) left around 5:20.
As we were cleaning and closing, people kept coming through the drive-through, knocking on the door, despite the signs saying "9:00 - 3:00" that had been there for over two weeks. Oh well.
I will conclude with a picture of my mom, my brother, and myself from my cousin's wedding.
Well, next week's work scheduled was a little bit of suck before there were any changes.
Monday 12/25 | 9:00 - 4:00
Wednesday 12/27 | Overnight
Thursday 12/28 | Overnight
Friday 12/29 | Overnight
Why a little bit of suck? Thursday is the day I'm going to see Glassjaw. Now, I did not have a chance to reserve this day off because my manager had blacked out the date book for the month of December saying it was way too busy to take off days (minus emergencies).
Okay, that's fine. I never work Thursday overnight anyways, well...
then Glenn took the whole week for vacation.
Then Amanda got fired.
Rut row.
Well, I told Tamra that I could work for her Tuesday from 5:00 - 9:45 because I needed a little extra cash for holiday shopping (yes I realize it's the day after Christmas...I gots to work within my time frame) anyways.
But STILL, Thursday. I need to go to this show, I've missed the band far too many times for me not to. So, I got a call today from a totally cute sweetheart from my work saying she could take the shift.
Awesome.
Not so awesome? I do need to cover a shift for her the next day...then work my shift. Oh snap.
But, for Glassjaw, I will totally do it.
New schedule
Monday 12/25 | 9:00 a - 5:45 p
Tuesday 12/26 | 5:00 p - 9:45 p
Wednesday 12/27 | Overnight
Friday 12/28 | 10:00 a - 5:00 p / 11:15 p - 5:15a
Ohhhhh snap. Now, the reason I feel so compelled to see this show even though I'm driving to Connecticut three days later to see them is because this is a headlining show. And also, I need to make up for all the times I didn't check them out. So, that's the deal. Should be a long, interesting, and quite intense week.
I don't think I've ever wanted a semester to end as badly as I did this one. Lots of things just seemed to be going wrong. But, I made out quite well.
Animating Graphics for the Web | A-
Audio for Multimedia | C+
Digital Video Production | A
Interface Design | A
Multimedia Marketing and Sales | A-
Audio for Multimedia was a disappointment (not my grade, I expected that). I had been looking forward to taking it since I got here simply because I've always wanted to have some sort of relationship with the audible world with my music and my web work. There was a large focus on music theory in the beginning...and I'm afraid that has just yet to grab me. Any type of mathematics, no matter the size, frightens me like ten Boogeymen. It is the reason I could not complete piano lessons, and why I can only play drums by ear and guitar by way the tab. Part of me would love to take the course over just to get that down. But whatever, I enjoyed the class, despite my poor performance. I actually didn't hate my projects, I might even post those later.
Digital Video Production was easily my favorite class. The instructor, Chris Florio, just has it down. A great method, vast knowledge, and overall awesome karma.
Marketing proved to be a formidable foe. The work was not hard, but I have never been a fan of the business world and it was a rather drab length of time. But, the class was useful and the instructor knows what he is talking about. Certainly recommended.
Interface Design and Animating Graphics for the Web were fun projects, but a waste of time. I wish I had tested out of both and saved some cash. But oh well, if nothing else, they solidified what I knew and allowed me to move forward.
Alrighty, update for the past few days.

Wednesday: Overnight at Starbucks, watched lots of Homestar Runner
Thursday: ate breakfast at Bickford's (strawberry pancakes, potatoe pancakes), went to Lindsay's (watched American Beauty, wrote, slept a minor amount, watched Ren & Stimpy), went to Panera (had an amazing mozarella mushroom panini/squash soup, and a iced green tea), started feeling ill, watched lots of Homestar Runner
Friday: full blow illness, went to class, had the meal of sick champions (carrots, baby tomatoes, lemon poppy muffin, ibuprufen), came home and slept until work, worked an insanely busy overnight (well, by overnight standards) but felt really good just to move and not be in a bed, watched lots of Homestar Runner
Saturday: slept until 11:00, hobbled onto couch, went to Lightning Bolt/White Mice/B.E.A.R.D. show at 4:00 with Chris and Mike (totally worth it, I would have gone in a casket), came home, worked a little while, had some left over pizza, watched lots of Homestar Runner

I have all of my finals to do. I have developed concepts for all of them, but have yet to follow through.
Audio for Multimedia: Doing an entirely vocal performance, should be fun
Interface Design: Basic math game based on Quacky character
Animating Graphics for the Web: doing a beat-boxing piece, I'm a terrible beat boxer which will be half the fun
Marketing: Finishing up slides for presentation, I've got a few done...not enough
Digital Video Production: I need to get some green screen so I can work with my concept of a failed video artist meeting the rest of my personalities and pieces...story is written, I just need to do it...should be a damn good time filming and editing (ewwww)

Personal life...
- I've set up the basics for both a sleep study and a minor surgery for my deviated septum/sleep apnea. I'm going to schedule both some time after next week so I can get finals out the way.
- I only have two days of work this week, and one is on Tuesday which I specifically listed as unavailable. I'm fairly bummed out right now, but I think it's with my manager so I can let her know.
- I'm also just about done with my top ten cd's for the year, it's been rough...lots of good stuff
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Aside from that...
Work: Massage Therapy Clinic (longggggg over due), another law firm, Ossian/Kingdom Cold
Personal Projects: Develop more visual and (obviously) audible pieces for Paleosol, drum like a mother-fucker, drink lots of Gingerbread Hot Chocolates and get better
